PROJECT IDEAS
Paint the State is all about your creativity. Here are some examples of what's possible, or come up with your own unique ideas:
  • A mural painted on the side of a grain silo or barn.
  • A painted vehicle or bus on the street.
  • A metal, wood, or concrete sculpture visible from the road.
  • A large colorful billboard or painting displayed close to your school.
  • A graphic in colored chalk on a sidewalk or side of a building.
  • A canvas hung on the side of a building.
SUPPORT TIPS
  • Network - Ask for help from a community group. Think YMCA, camps, your church, local arts council, neighbors, or school or community clubs.
  • Start early - Don't let another individual or team in your county get to an important supporter first. Talk to a local business owner or manager about the contest and share your ideas. They may be able to assist you with finding a location and/or supplies.
  • Get supplies - Home improvement stores often have returned paint they cannot sell. Inquire about utilizing this extra paint or other surplus materials for your project.
  • Ask first - Be sure the property owner is OK with you using his or her building, field, or other property. Get your community involved to help in the fight against Meth, but be sure to get permission.
  • Get organized - Put your ideas down on paper, add drawings, sketches, and a list of materials you'll need.
  • Stay on track - Make a schedule of what needs to be done by when. Remember, entries will not be accepted after 11:59 pm MDT on July 18. We will be disabling the submission area of our website at the stroke of midnight!
PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS

Once you are registered for Paint the State, you will need to submit a photo, description, and the location of your project online by Sunday, July 18, 2010, 11:59 pm MDT.

The digital photo you post cannot exceed 2 megabytes (2 MB) and must be saved as a .jpg file.

ADDITIONAL PHOTO TIPS
  • Keep it steady - If you have one available, use a tripod to support your camera rather than holding it by hand.
  • Take several shots from different views, at different times of day, close-up and from farther away, with and without people in the photo so you can select the photo that best represents your artwork.
  • Save your work - Upload your photos from the camera to a computer, then burn them to a CD or jump drive so you have a safe, secure backup.
  • We want to see your artwork as it is displayed, so please do not alter photos in Photoshop or other photo-editing software.
